Short answer: If you buy ready-to-press DTF transfers, printing costs from about $0.23 for a small logo to about $3 for an adult front print and $5–$7 for a full back, priced by film length ($0.34–$0.50 per inch at BeeDTF). Printing in-house adds a printer, powder shaker or oven, film, ink, powder, maintenance and labor, which only pays off at high, steady volume.

"How much does DTF cost?" has two very different answers depending on whether you buy transfers or run your own printer. Most small shops and brands are better off buying, but it helps to see the full breakdown before deciding. This guide lays out both sides with real numbers where we have them. It is part of our gang sheet and ordering series, and the transfer prices are for BeeDTF DTF transfers.

What does printing DTF in-house involve?

Running your own DTF line means owning every step that a transfer printer does for you. These are the cost lines to plan for:

  • Equipment: DTF printer, powder shaker or manual powdering, curing oven or dryer, RIP software.
  • Consumables: PET film, CMYK and white ink, adhesive powder, cleaning solution.
  • Maintenance: white ink needs daily circulation and cleaning; idle printers clog.
  • Waste: test prints, failed cures, head cleaning ink.
  • Space and power: ventilation for curing, steady temperature and humidity.
  • Labor: file prep, printing, powdering, curing and quality checks.

What is the full cost of a DTF shirt?

For a quote, add the transfer to everything else that goes into one shirt:

Cost line Example (adult tee, 10″ × 12″ front)
Transfer $3.06 on a short sheet; $2.08 at wholesale
Blank shirt Your supplier price
Pressing labor About 1 minute per shirt
Shipping share Free over $50; otherwise $5.99 ÷ shirts
Misprint buffer 5% of transfers
Packaging and care card A few cents; see our free care card

Should you buy transfers or print your own?

Buy transfers if your volume changes from week to week, if you sell many designs in small quantities, or if you would rather spend time selling than maintaining a printer. Consider printing in-house only if you print every day, in steady volume, and have someone to run and maintain the machine.

  • Buy: small brands, Etsy and event shops, teams, schools, screen printers adding DTF.
  • Print: high-volume shops with daily runs and staff to maintain equipment.
  • Hybrid: print in-house for best-sellers, buy wholesale transfers for peaks and overflow.

How much does a finished printed shirt cost?

If you don't want to press at all, our custom apparel line prints your design with DTF on the garment: adult tees from $12, youth tees $11, toddler tees $10, sweatshirts from $22 and hoodies from $25.
