File guidelines
Great prints start with great files. A real person checks every file, but these tips get it right the first time.
Quick checklist
- Use a PNG with a transparent background
- Make it 300 DPI at the actual print size
- Keep lines at least 1 pt (0.35 mm) thick
- Keep text at least 6 pt
- Convert text to outlines in vector files
- White or colored background boxes (they print!)
- Soft glows, drop shadows and semi-transparent pixels
- Small images enlarged from the web
- Hairline strokes and tiny text
- Mirroring your design (we do it for you)
Resolution & size
Print size in inches × 300 = the pixels you need. A 10″-wide print needs an image about 3,000 px wide.
Upload it anyway. Our product pages warn you if the resolution is low, and our team checks every file before printing.
Transparent backgrounds
A white background prints as a white box. Semi-transparent pixels, like soft shadows or faded edges, print as a hazy white or disappear.
Most of our product pages have a Remove background and Trim button that fixes simple backgrounds for you. For complex art, use a tool like Photoshop or contact us.
Accepted file types
- PNG: best choice for most designs
- PDF, SVG, AI, EPS: vector files, great for logos and text
- PSD: Photoshop files, flattened with a transparent background
- JPG: only if the background will be removed
Colors
Design in RGB. We print with CMYK + white ink, so very bright neon and metallic colors can’t be matched exactly. Pantone colors are matched as closely as possible.
Gang sheets
Our gang sheets are 22″ wide. Leave at least ¼″ between designs so they’re easy to cut apart. The Gang Sheet Builder does this for you.
Can you fix my file for me?
We can fix small things, like a simple background. For bigger changes, contact us before you order and we’ll let you know what’s possible.
