Direct-to-Film (DTF) Transfers: A Buyer's Guide to Quality, Sizes and Price
DTF transfers cost $0.34–$0.50 per inch at BeeDTF. This buyer's guide covers price per print, six quality checks, gang sheets vs transfers by size, sizes, file requirements, shipping time and the official...
Short answer: direct-to-film (DTF) transfers are full-color prints on PET film that you heat-press onto fabric. A buyer judges DTF transfers by five attributes: print quality, adhesive cure, file check, price per inch and turnaround. At BeeDTF, DTF transfers cost $0.34–$0.50 per inch of 22″-wide film, single transfers start at $1.25, and orders placed by 2 PM Pacific Time ship the same business day from San Jose, California.
This guide covers the buying decision: cost, quality checks, gang sheets vs transfers by size, sizes, file requirements, shipping time and press settings. The prices and settings in this guide are BeeDTF's current prices and official press settings.

What do you get when you buy DTF transfers?
A DTF transfer order contains your designs printed in reverse on PET film, with a white ink base and a cured hot-melt adhesive on the back. You heat-press each transfer onto the garment and peel the film away.
- Fabrics: cotton, polyester, blends, fleece, canvas and denim. Nylon needs a test press.
- Garment colors: all colors, including black, because of the white base layer.
- Durability: 50+ washes when pressed with the correct settings.
- Minimum order: none.
- Equipment needed: a heat press and a Teflon sheet or parchment paper.
The print shop handles printing, powdering and curing; the step-by-step process is in how DTF printing works.
How much do DTF transfers cost?
DTF transfers cost $0.34 to $0.50 per inch of 22″-wide film at BeeDTF. The price per inch decreases as the sheet length increases. Single transfers by size start at $1.25 for a print area up to 30 square inches.
The cost per print depends on how many designs fit on the sheet. The table below assumes rectangular designs with 0.5″ spacing.
| Sheet | Price | Fits about | Cost per print |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22″ × 24″ | $12.00 | 4 adult fronts (11″ wide) | $3.00 |
| 22″ × 60″ | $27.00 | 10 adult fronts | $2.70 |
| 22″ × 60″ | $27.00 | 50+ left-chest logos (4″ wide) | under $0.55 |
| 22″ × 120″ | $50.40 | 20 adult fronts | $2.52 |
| Wholesale 1000″ | $340.00 | 170 adult fronts | $2.00 |
Three other costs change the order total:
- Shipping: $5.99 standard, free on orders of $50 or more, $13 express.
- Bulk discount on transfers by size: 15% off at 10+ pieces, up to 50% off at 250+ pieces.
- Setup, color and file-check fees: $0 at BeeDTF.
Orders of 400″ or more cost $0.34–$0.40 per inch with wholesale DTF transfers.
How do you check DTF transfer quality?
You check DTF transfer quality with six tests: color opacity, white edge alignment, adhesive cure, fine detail, banding and stretch after pressing. The first five tests take less than a minute on the unpressed film.
| Check | How to test | What a failed test means |
|---|---|---|
| Opacity | Hold the film against a black surface. | Thin white layer; colors look dull on dark garments. |
| White edge | Look at the outline of the design. | Misaligned white layer; a white halo shows on dark garments. |
| Adhesive cure | Run a finger over the back of the film. | Under-cured powder; those areas may not bond. |
| Fine detail | Check lines and text under 2 mm. | Low print resolution or ink spread. Lines under 1 mm are risky on any DTF printer. |
| Banding | Look across gradients and photos. | Clogged printhead nozzles during printing. |
| Stretch | Stretch the fabric 24 hours after pressing. | Over-pressing or under-cured adhesive; the print cracks. |
Two quality factors do not show on the film: a human file check before printing, and a reprint policy for print errors. BeeDTF checks every file by hand and reprints at no cost when a print error is BeeDTF's fault, as stated in the refund and reprint policy.
Should you buy a DTF gang sheet or transfers by size?
Buy a gang sheet for many designs, sizes or colorways. Buy transfers by size for one or two designs in any quantity.
| Transfers by size | Gang sheet | |
|---|---|---|
| Price unit | Per transfer, by print area | Per inch of 22″-wide film |
| Layout | BeeDTF arranges the designs | The buyer arranges the designs |
| Best for | 1–2 designs | 3+ designs, sizes or colorways |
| Volume pricing | Up to 50% off at 250+ pieces | $0.50 down to $0.42 per inch |
| Starting price | $1.25 (up to 30 in²) | $6.00 (22″ × 12″) |
A gang sheet costs less per print when the designs fill most of the sheet width. Small logos, sleeve prints and neck labels placed in the gaps between large designs add no cost. A print-ready 22″-wide file can be sent with Upload Gang Sheet; without a file, the Gang Sheet Builder arranges designs online.
What size DTF transfer do you need?
An adult full-front DTF transfer is 11″ wide, and a left-chest logo is 3.5″–4″ wide. Standard widths by placement:
| Placement | Width |
|---|---|
| Adult full front | 10″–12″ (11″ for sizes S–XL) |
| Adult full back | 12″–14″ |
| Left chest | 3.5″–4″ |
| Youth front | 8″–9″ |
| Toddler front | about 6″ |
| Short sleeve | 2.5″–3.5″ |
| Back of neck | 2.5″–3″ |
| Hat front | about 4.5″ × 2.25″ |
Placement measurements for hoodies, totes and youth sizes are in the DTF transfer size chart.
What should you prepare before ordering DTF transfers?
Prepare a 300 DPI file with a transparent background at the final print size, and decide the print width for each garment. Three points decide most first orders:
- File: transparent PNG at 300 DPI. A 10″-wide print needs a file 3,000 pixels wide.
- File size limit: 500 MB per file; 300 MB for Upload Gang Sheet and Upload UV DTF Gang Sheet.
- Orientation: send the design unmirrored. BeeDTF mirrors it for printing.
A BeeDTF team member checks every file and emails you before printing when a file needs a fix. The full file checklist with examples is in the DTF file guidelines.
How fast do DTF transfers ship?
BeeDTF ships DTF transfers the same business day for orders placed by 2 PM Pacific Time. Delivery time equals processing time plus carrier transit time:
- Processing: same day for orders by 2 PM PT, Monday–Friday; next business day after 2 PM, on weekends and on US holidays.
- Standard transit: 1–3 business days within the US (Nevada: usually next day).
- West Coast transit: 1–2 business days to Nevada, Oregon and Arizona.
- Express: $13, with the delivery estimate shown at checkout.
All shipping rules, including lost-package steps, are in the shipping policy.
Which press settings come with BeeDTF transfers?
BeeDTF transfers press at 275°F for 7 seconds with medium pressure, peel hot, and take a 5-second finish press. Every order follows these limits:
- First press: 275°F, 7 seconds, medium pressure. Maximum 300°F or 10 seconds.
- Peel: hot, right away, in one smooth motion.
- Finish press: 5 seconds with a cover sheet. Maximum 300°F or 5 seconds.
- First wash: 24 hours after pressing.
Over-pressing scorches the adhesive and causes cracking after the first wash. Pre-press, placement and peel steps are in the DTF pressing instructions.

Frequently asked questions about DTF transfers
Are DTF and direct-to-film transfers the same?
Yes. DTF is the abbreviation of direct-to-film. Both names describe ready-to-press prints on PET film.
How much does one DTF transfer cost?
One DTF transfer costs $1.25 for a print area up to 30 square inches at BeeDTF. An 11″ adult front costs $2–$3 on a gang sheet, depending on sheet length.
Are DTF transfers good quality?
DTF transfers are good quality when the white layer is opaque, the adhesive is fully cured and the press settings are correct. Correctly pressed DTF transfers last 50+ washes.
What is a DTF gang sheet?
A DTF gang sheet is a 22″-wide sheet of film with multiple designs printed on it. The price depends on sheet length, not on the number of designs.
Can you order one DTF transfer?
Yes. BeeDTF has no minimum order, and transfers by size can be ordered as a single piece.
How long do unpressed DTF transfers last?
Cured, unpressed DTF transfers last for months when stored flat in a sealed bag in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
Do DTF transfers need a heat press?
A heat press gives the most consistent result. A handheld heat press works for small prints. A household iron is the least reliable method.
